Meletini - Oia, Santorini - March 2015

Meletini - Oia, Santorini - March 2015

Let me start by saying I struggled over whether to even post about this restaurant.  It is tiny - 6 tables - and it is mine and only mine!  This resturant is a GEM! Every bite was delicious, the server was gracious and the chef was skilled and friendly.  If my visit had been longer I would have returned to try even more plates.  My friends and I were able to get a table late in the evening the same day we called, but I am certain that is because we visited in the winter.  Once the tourist season starts it must be very difficult to get a reservation there.  The reason why?  See below!

Traditional griled vegetables with delicious syrupy aged balsamic vinegar and herbs.

My favorite!  Saganaki, which is fried greek cheese.  It was lightly fried, crispy and salty.

How about some seasoned and grilled rustic bread to go with the Saganaki?  Yes please!

This was a treat.  I'd had spinach pie before, but never pastrami pie.  This definitely needs to become common in the US.  It's amazing!

My friends and I devoured this grilled octopus tentacle.  It was seasoned with olive oil and herbs and was very tender.  Most octopus I've had has been overcooked and a disappointment.  This was awesome.

This loukoumi came out with the bill.  Thank you!  I am not a fan of non-chocolate desserts, but this treat was warm and creamy on the inside with a sugary crust on the outside.  I had the one that tasted like roses.  What a love…

This guy came to visit the diners causing quite a stir.
